Pakistan on Friday expressed “serious concerns” over the inauguration of the controversial Kishanganga hydropower project by India and termed it a “violation of the Indus Waters Treaty”.
A statement issued by the Foreign Office said, “Pakistan believes that the inauguration of the project without the resolution of the dispute is tantamount to violation of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT).”
Despite several rounds of bilateral negotiations as well mediations by the World Bank, India continued with the construction of the project, the Foreign Office said, adding that “this intransigence on part of India clearly threatens the sanctity of the Treaty”.
The Foreign Office reiterated that as the custodian of the treaty, the World Bank must urge India to address Pakistan’s reservations on the Kishanganga project.
Pakistan maintains that India had completed the 330MW project during the period the World Bank “paused” the process for constitution of a Court of Arbitration (COA) as requested by Pakistan in early 2016. The Pakistani request was countered by India by calling for a neutral expert.
Pakistan had called for the resolution of disputes over the Kishanganga project on the Neelum river and 850MW Ratle hydropower project on the Chenab.

India is busy building dams on rivers flowing into Pakistan in violation of the Indus Water Treaty. That is reducing water flowing into Pakistan. Yet, our government shows concern after India inaugurated Kishanganga Dam? Why did the PML-N government not raise this matter before the dam was built in violation of the Treaty? Why did the PML-N government fail to resolve Kalabagh Dam issue, which could provide 4,000 MW of cheap energy and water for agriculture? Such "failure" to safeguard Pakistan's national interest will have devastating consequences for diminishing water supply and energy generation in Pakistan.

World bank or anybody else has not stopped India from stopping the construction therefore inauguration is taking place. One of the earlier ruling rejected most of the Pakistan’s concern. If Pakistan is not happy then they can get out of Indus treaty and negotiate new treaty or may be no treaty.

I think we just need to build more dams and forget what Indians are doing as theoretically they can not divert or block the water completely, all they can do is fill their dams and surplus water will start to flow which we need to capture rather then wasting in to Arabian Sea. We are just not forward planning, everything gets politicised due to uneducated hereditary politicians.

A dam is a tool for controlling water. Despite not restricting the flow officially. Now India will have a option to turn off water flow whenever needed. Hence despite meeting world bank recommendations it remains a big concern for Pakistan for sure.

all these years Pakistan was getting more than its share, in the treaty. India had no means to divert its share from the natural flow of the river. With the dam, now in place . Pakistan will get what it signed for, India will not hold even a drop, from what's due, as per the treaty.

Pakistan, under the leadership and guidance of NS, did not persue the case correctly (maybe on purpose - to please India). During the arbitration, Pakistan was given all the time and chance to submit details and proofs as to why India should not proceed with the KG dam......but on page 34, the international court of arbitration mentioned that Pakistan did not provide any details or figures and therefore ICA gave the verdict in India’s favor.

Pakistanis, please understand it’s a hydropower dam which doesn’t stop any water flowing down. It doesn’t cause you any harm. Also are you not aware that India only takes a fraction of water agreed under the treaty. Why don’t you stop whinging and build your own dams to utilise the water to the full before it runs off into the sea?

WB in it's ruling has rejected Pakisan's objections. Please read IWT carefully. It allows waters to be used for irrigation. It's better to work with India and build more dams on Pakistan, and use water efficiently. If Pakistan is not comfortable with IWT, they can very well withdraw. No one will question.

At least some one is making electricity out of Indus River. You can make thousands of small dams on this river before that same water wasted in the Ocean. It is the flow of water that what is needed to make electricity. Use it or loose it (talking about water).

Hypothetically, let us say, India keeps building a certain dam over Pakistan's objections; what can Pakistan really do about it anyway? Bomb the dam under construction and start an all out war it cannot win? If Pakistan keeps finding reasons to gripe about everything India does, India might just use that as a reason to abrogate the whole of IWT, to get out of this day to day nuisance. Then what are you going to do? Realistically, Pakistan is in no position to quarrel and it would behoove it to be more accommodating and amicable in its dealings with India on this subject; Pakistan would be well advised to choose her battles carefully. Pakistan keeps griping about India stealing water, (which it doesn't) when most of the water that does go over the border goes unused by Pakistan in to the Arabian Sea anyway. So what is Pakistan griping about?

Mare showing/expressing concern is not enough. Need some concrete steps to be taken to counter India. But to stop such activities by India, Pakistan needs a dabang (robust) FM, we do not have one. The portfolio of FM was kept by Nawaz Sharif for one reason and that is to provide obstacle free environment for India.. When India says thay have invested in Nawaz Sharif. It is this area where Nawaz Sharif has to look the other way. He could not do that if he did't have the FM portfolio with him.
I do not understand that why the establishment is afraid to reign him when he is openly talking against the country and in favor of enemy country. When I uses word enemy, I really mean it. Because India is doing everything an enemy will do.

India reduced the dam height after the intervention of world bank . Indus treaty dint object to build dams , it has proposed to maintain certain flow in the river and India has the right use it in noncinsuanablw way like producing hydro electric power . World bank too dint object for the construction of this dam .
Dear people of Pakistan, natural resources are doesn't belong to certain country . It belongs to the entire eco system. I hope the government of India will not do any harm to the lower riparian state. The treaty didn't fail even during four wars on India .You have the world bank as perfect mediator to address your claim. The construction was cleared by cleared by CoA (Court of Arbitration) with some restrictions which India agreed like maintaining the natural flow of water and height of dam.
Pakistan is already building a dam 3 times of this dam on the same river with Chinese help.
