HYDERABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MNA from Jamshoro Malik Asad Sikandar, in his second bitter attack against his opponents, alluding mainly to the rivals within his party Local Government Minister Jam Khan Shoro and MPA Dr Sikandar Shoro — has vowed that the results of the next election would prove to be “coffin” of his opponents.

He said he would defeat them [the Shoros] like a hunter pounces on prey.

The Malik, who is tribal chieftain of his tribe, was addressing a ceremony in Sachal Ground held for prize distribution to the winners of a cricket tournament late on Friday evening.

No sign of end to rift within PPP in Jamshoro district before election

PPP MPA from Kotri Dr Sikandar Shoro and LG Minister Jam Khan Shoro had last challenged the Malik after he had fallen out of party’s favour.

At the sports ceremony, he drove to the venue in a big rally which later turned into a public meeting.

“People have proved that Jamshoro has no place for traitors as we abhor politics of money,” he said, and recalled that whenever he faced tough times like during the Arbab government, people stood with him and he valued their support.

He said it was painful for him to see that poor people’s houses were being bulldozed. “I was pressured ... billions of rupees were offered to me ... but I didn’t bargain over these people’s land,” he said, adding that by attending this show, his supporters from Jamshoro had proved that only honour and justice would rule supreme in this district.

He described the crowd as a “referendum” against his opponents. He said that he would have enjoyed facing his enemies had they been brave.

He said that Shoros of Jangri (an area falling within his constituency) complained to him that their dikka (mounds of gravel) had been closed. “Down with such people who commit robbery over their own men,” he said, and vowed to defend the aggrieved people. “I can see those who had won in election with my help,” he said alluding to Dr Sikandar Shoro. People could see the results of the elections from 1985 onwards, he added.

MPAs Giyanchand Essrani and Faqir Dad Khoso, Sardar Jaffar Khan Shoro, Younus Khan and others also spoke.

Malik Asad Sikandar was presented a gold crown and a replica of the Holy Kaaba’s door made of gold. Some Shoro community fellows announced returning four appointment orders given by Dr Sikandar Shoro to switch their loyalties to the Malik.

One wonders what the rationale was for the foreign minister — a highly demanding, full-time job — being assigned various other political responsibilities.
