KARACHI: Two men were shot dead by robbers in as many incidents across the city on Tuesday, police said.
In Orangi Town, armed muggers riding on a motorbike held some people at gunpoint and demanded their cell phones and cash. When one of the victims, later identified as Abdullah, tried to resist, the muggers opened fire on him and rode away.
Abdullah suffered critical bullet wounds and was taken to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
The police said further investigations were underway.
In a separate incident, the watchman of a bus stand was shot dead by robbers in Surjani Town.
Police said that Ashfaq Ahmed, 50, was shot and killed during a robbery in Sector-10 near Khan bus stop.
West SSP Dr Hafeezur Rehman Bugti told Dawn that two armed robbers looted over Rs100,000 cash which was kept inside the shelf of an office of the bus terminus. The cash was being kept there for bus operators/drivers to buy fuel, he added.
The SSP suspected that some insider(s) might be involved in the robbery and they killed the watchman because he could have identified them.
Meanwhile, Karachi police chief Imran Yaqoob Minhas took notice of the latest incidents and directed the police to take immediate steps to arrest the killers.
Three shot at, wounded
Three people were shot at and wounded by unidentified persons in different parts of the city on Tuesday.
Police said that Khalil Ahmed, 50, and Zafar Iqbal, 60, were shot near Dubai Chowk in Gulistan-i-Jauhar.
They were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment.
In another incident, 40-year-old Waseem Afzal was shot at and wounded by unknown muggers near Subzi Mandi on Superhighway.
He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.
