QUETTA: The provincial mining and mineral development department on Tuesday set up a four-member committee to investigate the Marwar and Sur-range coal mine accidents that claimed 23 lives last week.

The committee headed by Director General of Mining Development Muhammad Imran Zarkhoon will visit the coal mines where the accidents took place.

Chief Inspector of Mines Iftikhar Ahmed, Jamil Khetran, project director, geo data, Quetta, and Abdullah Shahwani, director, mining exploration, are members of the inquiry committee, which will submit its report in 30 days.

On Saturday, a coal mine in Marwar area collapsed after a gas explosion, leading to death of 16 miners. Seven others died after being buried under a landslide inside another mine in Sur-rang coal field.
