LAHORE: Newly elected president of the Punjab Football Association (PFA) Sardar Naveed has said that the scrutiny of the clubs in all the 36 districts of the Punjab would start soon in order to hold fresh elections.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Sardar said the turmoil in the affairs of the national football lasted three and a half years and did great damage to the game as not a single tournament was held at the district level in this period.

“But now the system has been restored and the PFA is mulling different options to resume the activities as soon as possible,” Sardar said.

He added that the financial losses incurred by the association would be recovered by holding leagues, both at the level of districts and then at the divisional levels. He said that the clubs which would not participate in the league matches, would be barred from their respective district body.

He said complaints were being received about the existance of a good number of bogus clubs but after the scrutiny no such club would be operative.

Sardar further said there was no dearth of talent in Punjab but there was only a need to provide opportunity to the footballers to showcase their talent. He said he was elected as president after getting overwhelming majority in the PFA elections which were conducted under the supervision of Supreme Court’s representative Ali Raza.
