THE Government Degree College in Hangu established in 1973, has been affiliated with Kohat University of Science and Technology.

The college has contributed a lot. Tens of thousands of students got intermediate certificates and a number of students got bachelor’s degrees from this college. They have been serving at executive positions. This college has produced a number of doctors, engineers, IT experts and social scientists.

Hangu has 30.5 per cent literacy rate. But the college has several problems, including lack of staff, no proper maintenance of the building and the non-availability of courses like BS honours and master’s.

It has been ignored by the higher authorities for many decades. For a large population, there is just this degree college that too has been facing myriad problems.

BS honours programme is offered by all government degree colleges across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Hangu is one of the unfortunate districts which doesn’t have a BS degree programme. After completing intermediate, a large number of students leave studies, for the college doesn’t have a BS programme.

The authorities concerned should start BS programme at the college on a priority basis.
