RAWALPINDI: Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) new logo of a markhor has been introduced on its ground facilities at the new Islamabad international airport.

The signboards at its facilitation centres contain the new logo instead of the national flag.

Signboards at the transit passengers’ counter, baggage claim, baggage office and the special lounge for commercially important persons now adorn the markhor.

PIA spokesperson Mashood Tajwar told Dawn that the logo will eventually be put on all of the airline’s aircraft.

He said the PIA board of directors have approved the change and that the aircraft will be painted during their maintenance test, when they are grounded for two to three weeks.

“The new logo is currently being painted on a Boeing 777 plane,” he said, adding that the change is part of the airline’s transformation and new business plan.

The new livery will be added to planes’ tail and two on the engines.

The font of the PIA logo has been changed as well and added to the belly so it is visible when the aircraft is flying overhead.

The new airport is scheduled to be opened for flights on May 3 and will be inaugurated by the prime minister on May 1.
