ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to establish the Eighth Wage Board for journalists and will present a summary to the federal cabinet soon, Marriyum Aurangzeb, the Minister of State for Information, said on Monday.

The minister announced the decision after five hours of negotiations with a delegation of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), led by Afzal Butt.

The PFUJ had launched a drive on Monday to press the government to constitute the Wage Board, enact a service structure law for electronic media and streamline the service structure of third party contract employees.

As journalists from all over the country prepared to take out a procession from the National Press Club (NPC), the minister rushed to the place and invited the PFUJ to negotiations.

Ms Aurangzeb assured the PFUJ delegation that the notification in this regard would be approved by the federal cabinet on Tuesday.

The PFUJ said in a statement that it would launch a drive against the government on Tuesday evening if the federal cabinet did not approve the notification.
