LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday personally examined construction work on the underground track of the Orange Line Project outside the Supreme Court’s registry and the GPO Chowk.

On his arrival at the registry, the chief justice came out of his car and first took a round of the construction work.

He also personally listened to grievances of disabled persons and affectees of Eden Housing Scheme protesting outside the Supreme Court building. He assured the protesters of resolving their issues after summoning record from the relevant authorities.

AITZAZ AHSAN: The chief justice on Saturday told Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan that a cheque for Rs10,000, which he returned to his (CJP) son, had been sent back to him again.

The chief justice was hearing different public interest cases at the Lahore registry when he found Mr Ahsan sitting in the court.

“Is everything ok? Your cheque is already returned to you,” said the chief justice to the senior lawyer on a lighter note.

Mr Ahsan smiled and started discussing the case he was to represent before the court.

The court had previously imposed a fine of Rs10,000 on Mr Ahsan for not appearing in a case. However, Barrister Ahsan when appeared before the court lodged his protest on the imposition of fine saying he was on general adjournment. He also refused to pay the fine and urged the court to withdraw it.

However, CJP Nisar refused to withdraw the fine saying the amount would be paid in any case either by Mr Ahsan or him (CJP).

On a subsequent hearing, the chief justice told Mr Ahsan, “My son Najam paid the fine on behalf of his uncle (Ahsan).”

However, Barrister Ahsan later returned Rs10,000 to son of the chief justice through a cheque.
