TIMERGARA: The residents of Adenzai have demanded of the district administration and tehsil municipal administration to help them get rid of stray dogs.

They said that growing number of stray dogs in Ouch, Kotigram, Asbanr and Khanpur bazaars posed threats to people. They said that majority of the stray dogs were infected with rabies during hot summer.

The residents said that most of the hospitals in Lower Dir were short of anti-rabies vaccine. They said that several people were bitten by the stray dogs each year, forcing them to spend a lot of money on anti-rabies vaccination.

The residents told this scribe that scores of stray dogs wondered openly in the area. They said that roads, streets and bazaars were unsafe because of the presence of stray dogs in such a large number.

“A mad dog was shot dead by people at Asbanr Bazaar the other day,” Israr, a local, said. He added that the incident panicked schoolchildren in the area.

The residents demanded of the departments concerned to either poison the dogs or keep regular check on them.
