ISLAMABAD: One of the new RLNG power plants the government is relying on has successfully completed its critical reliability test run, according to a press release. The plant is located in Haveli Bahadur Shah of Jhang district.

The project is expected to add up to 1,230 megawatts (MW) to the national grid — enough to meet the needs of 2.5 million households.

SEPCOIII, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China, is the engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the project.

Power company clarifies

Meanwhile, the National Power Parks Management Company (NPPMC), a government-owned organisation which is building the three RLNG power plants, has clarified a report carried by Dawn in its March 26 issue under the headline, “Cabinet worried over delay in 6,000MW power plants”. No request for open cycle operation after conversion period has been submitted by NPPMCL to Nepra, the company said.

The NPPMC further said the date for commencement of commercial operations for Haveli Bahadur Shah is April this year while that for Balloki is May.

The technology being used in the plants is new, but it has been tested in several countries before its installation in Pakistan. Prominent among them are the United States, Japan, France and Russia.
