LAHORE: A judicial magistrate on Monday sent three suspects to jail on judicial remand in a case of hurling a shoe at former prime minister Nawaz Sharif during a ceremony at Jamia Naeemia, Garhi Shahu.

Qila Gujjar Singh police had registered a case against prime suspect Munawwar Hussain, his two associates Abdul Ghafoor and Sajid under section 355 (assault or criminal force with intent to dishonour a person), section 504 (criminal intimidation) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and section 16 of Maintenance of Public Order.

All the three suspects were former students of the Jamia Naeemia, a seminary.

The police produced them before Judicial Magistrate Zartasha Bugti under tight security.

The police investigator stated that investigation had been completed and the “shoe” hurled by the prime suspect recovered.

He said the suspects had been found guilty of the offence. He said the suspects were religiously motivated and tried to create hatred against Nawaz Sharif. He said the physical custody of the suspects was no more required.

At this, the judicial magistrate sent the suspects on a 14-day judicial remand and directed the police to submit challan of the case.

The prime suspect had hurled a shoe at the ousted premier when he came to the rostrum to address a gathering at the known seminary.

The co-suspects also tried to throw shoes at Mr Sharif but security personnel overpowered them.
