KARACHI: A Chinese citizen, booked and arrested for allegedly helping his other countrymen in skimming data from automated teller machines (ATM), was on Monday granted bail by the Sindh High Court.

A two-judge bench gave Zao Zing post-arrest bail in the sum of Rs500,000.

The accused person, arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in the ATM skimming case, approached the SHC through his counsel, Barrister Ahmed Raza.

His counsel said the applicant used to run a guesthouse in the city and had rented out some rooms to other Chinese.

He termed the charges levelled against the Chinese citizen baseless and said his client was innocent.

The counsel contended that his client was entitled to be released on bail and asked the court to approve his bail application.

After hearing the arguments, the bench granted him bail against the surety of Rs500,000.

Turkish teachers’ deportation case

Another bench of the SHC restrained the authorities concerned from deporting former employees of Pak-Turk International Schools, ruling that they can live in the country but only as refugees.

The bench was seized with the hearing of a joint petition of eight Turkish employees of the school who had apprehended that they would be deported from Pakistan.
