BAHAWALPUR: The district has taken the lead in Punjab with the establishment of first ‘police e-Khidmat centre’ at a cost of around Rs1 million to provide 13 facilities to the public under one roof.

The centre has been opened on the instructions of IGP Arif Nawaz to provide maximum facilities to people.

Regional Police Officer Riffat Mukhtar Raja inaugurated the facility on Friday and hailed the IGP’s move to establish it.

Briefing the media men, DPO Mustansar Feroze said the 13 attested copies including FIR, general police verification, vehicle clearance certificate, renewal of driving licence, international driving permit, tenants’ entries, domestic servant’s entry, legal guidance for violence against women, lost documents, character certificate and driving learner’s licence to the applicants would be provided free of cost.

The step, he said, would eliminate the traditional police and VVIP cultures by providing hassle-free service to the public. He said the visitors would be facilitated through a token system and six counters (two of these for women) would operate and people don’t need to go to any police station.

He said in case of delay in providing the desired documents, the attested copies would be dispatched to the applicant at his or her residential address through a courier service. The centre would remain open daily (except Sunday) from morning until night without any break.

The DPO said the project the software of which had been provided by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) would be extended to the tehsil headquarters level in the second phase.

ARREST: An Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) raiding team led by special judicial magistrate Nayyar Mustafa on Friday arrested clerk Ali Akbar Kamran of Municipal Corporation for accepting Rs10,000 as illegal gratification from a man.

According to ACE police circle officer Rana Kaleem Ahmed, Muhammad Iftikhar paid Rs10,000 to Ali Akbar Kamran for the construction of his house without the approval of the map.

EDUCATION POSTS: Twenty-four assistant education officers (AEOs) have been issued appointment letters after the finalisation of their merit list by the district recruitment committee.

The posts of AEOs — 23 for girls -- were advertised and 932 candidates applied. As many as 798 girls were declared eligible for interview and 23 were selected after the process.

For the sole post in male category, 232 aspirants were declared eligible and the selection of one was made.
