TIMERGARA: Pakistan Peoples Party, Lower Dir secretary information and district councillor Alam Zeb Advocate was on Wednesday sent on a one day judicial remand after additional district and sessions judge Liaquat Ali cancelled his bail before arrest application.

The PPP leader had attained BBA after the Timergara police had registered a case against him for harassing doctors at the district headquarters hospital, Timergara, on Feb 16, when he led an enraged mob against doctors after the death of an eight-month-old child at the hospital’s emergency.

The protesters had blocked the Timergara-Chitral Road for several hours, alleging that the child had died due to doctors’ negligence.

The hospital’s staff also observed a three-day strike against the PPP activists for insulting them and inciting the locals against them.

JI RALLY: The local chapter of Jamaat-i-Islami Youth on Wednesday demonstrated against the ongoing bombardment on civilians in Syria and expressed solidarity with them.

The protesters were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the aggressors.

Speaking on the occasion, JI local leaders said the Ummah had kept criminal silence over the bloodshed of women, children and elderly in Syria.

They demanded of the government to send troops for help of innocent civilians in Syria and immediately cease relation with the powers involved in bloodshed in Damascus.

FARMERS’ ROLE LAUDED: Lower Dir Deputy Commissioner Sarmad Saleem Akram has asked the local government representatives to specially concentrate on wellbeing of farmers and peasants.

Addressing an orientation session on revised notification on participatory development planning for village, neighbourhood nazims and secretaries organised by Sarhad Rural Support Programme at district council hall Balambat, he said it was pathetic that the government was doing nothing for farmers’ welfare. He said farmers got small rates for their produce hardly enabling them to manage livelihood for their poor families.

“We can live without streetlights, paved streets and roads but not without food and water,” the DC said and called on local government representatives to initiate projects for wellbeing of peasants.
