ISLAMABAD / MUZAFFARABAD: Pakistan on Thursday summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner J.P. Singh to protest unprovoked ceasefire violations by Indian forces along the Line of Control in Rawalakot/Satwal Sector.

The protest was lodged hours after Indian firing in the Poonch area left a labourer dead.

According to a Foreign Office statement, director general of South Asia and South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation desk, Dr Mohammad Faisal said that despite calls for restraint India continued to indulge in ceasefire violations.

The Indian side was urged to respect the 2003 ceasefire arrangement; investigate the incidents of ceasefire violations; instruct its forces to respect the ceasefire in letter and spirit, and maintain peace along the LoC and the Working Boundary.

The labourer killed by Indian firing was identified as Inzimam Hussain, 23. He was extracting sand at the right bank of River Poonch when the Indian firing hit him, Poonch Deputy Commissioner Raja Tahir Mumtaz told Dawn by telephone.
