LAHORE: Punjab University Controller of Examinations Dr Shahid Munir resigned from his post on Thursday.

He served the office for more than three years. He will, however, continue serving as a director of Centre for Coal Technology.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zakria Zakar appreciated the services of Dr Munir for reforming the examinations department, while the spokesperson for the university said that the controller examination was not directed to tender resignation.

He also said that the additional charge of the controller may be assigned to College of Earth and Environmental Sciences principal Prof Dr Sajid Rashid.

MEETING: A meeting of the PU Advanced Studies and Research Board approved 36 PhD synopses and 11 evaluation reports.

LECTURE: PU Pakistan Study Centre organised a lecture on ‘Nation, Narration, Borders: Representing National Identity in Pakistani Anglophone Literature’ where University of Naples “L’Orientale, Italy’s Dr Daniela Vitolo said one of the main features defining the Pakistani Anglophone literature was that it tended to bring into conversation the local and the global. She said the authors, living between Pakistan and the West, shared a cosmopolitan background and a deep knowledge of different societies and cultures while they write for Pakistani readers as well as for a global audience. Constantly concerned with political and social issues, the Pakistani Anglophone writers frequently seem to invite their readers to reflect on the ways in which social and political dynamics affect the construction of communitarian and personal identities.

Anglophone refers to literature written in English from former British colonies (excluding the United States).

She said if their approach to such issues is rooted within a Pakistani dimension, it also adopts a perspective that goes beyond national boundaries. Consequently, it is not rare for the protagonists of novels and short stories to move across borders – concrete as well as symbolic.

RESULTS: The PU has declared the results of BSc chemical engineering (old & new course), 5th semester examination 2017, and BS Applied Geology, second professional annual 2017.
