KARACHI: In a City-wide campaign against anti-social elements, the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) rounded up 178 persons and recovered stolen property worth about Rs65,000 last evening [Feb 15]. The arrested men include gamblers, thieves, burglars, pickpockets, car-lifters and proclaimed offenders and holders of illicit arms etc.

The raid had been divided into four areas. Each area was raided separately by a batch of policemen headed by an Inspector of Police.

The first batch recovered stolen property worth about Rs25,000 and arrested four persons. A businessman was arrested for being found in possession of Zinc slabs stolen from Mithadar worth Rs20,000 lying in his godown. Also, a jail-bird Wali Mohammed alias Bijli was hauled up with stolen clothes and a radiogram worth about Rs5,000. He is a previous convict with ten convictions to his credit. The other squad arrested a student Shaukat Ali, 17, for car-lifting. Two scooters were recovered from him and more recoveries are to be made. He is alleged to be the leader of a 3-man gang. — Correspondent
