ABBOTTABAD: The initial medical report has declared that Misbah Bibi, a maid at the house of provincial minister Mushtaq Ghani’s younger brother, had died by choking on the orange carpel.

DIG of Hazara police Saeed Wazir told reporters here that the report was produced by a medical board comprising three doctors, including a forensic expert, who had supervised postmortem of Misbah Bibi’s body.

He said the report revealed that the maid had stopped breathing after pieces of orange carpel blocked her trachea and as a result, she died.

The DIG said the medical board had submitted the initial medical report to the police, while samples from the girl’s body were sent to the forensic lab for detailed report, which was likely to reach the police within a week.

He added that the detailed report would be submitted to the inspector general of police as well as the Supreme Court chief justice, who had taken a suo motto notice of the maid’s death.

Though the girl’s death was stated to be mysterious, her family insisted that it was a natural death and that another minor member of it had died of asthma, while one still suffered from the problem.

The body was exhumed and examined after six days after burial.

The DIG said the girl’s body carried no signs of torture or sexual abuse

He said samples from the girl’s stomach and other body parts were sent to the provincial police’s laboratory and other labs to ascertain the exact cause of death.

The DIG added that those labs were likely to release their respective reports within seven days.

A fact-finding committee formed by the Hazara police DIG comprises government officials, civil society members and doctors. It after fulfilling legal formalities has begun its job and will produce its report to the district and sessions judge looking into the girl’s death.

INTERVENED: Hazara Division commissioner Akbar Khan has intervened in the dispute over the appointment of dean to the Ayub Medical Teaching Institution and asked both parties to wait until the decision of the Peshawar High Court’s Circuit Bench on the matter.

The court has fixed Feb 6 for hearing into the matter calling the AMTI board of governors and provincial health authorities to appear before it to give their respective versions.

The commissioner issued directions on the matter during a meeting attended by all stakeholders.
