PESHAWAR: Pakistan Peoples Party workers on Thursday observed a sit-in outside the regional office of National Accountability Bureau here in Hayatabad, shouted slogans against the provincial government and held Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leaders responsible for the increasing corruption in different departments.

Leading the protesters, party’s provincial president Mohammad Humayun Khan said that PTI leadership had failed to materialise its commitment regarding eradication of corruption and thus the menace of malpractices had increased during its tenure.

He said that controlling corruption had never been a priority of the provincial government.

He claimed that the reforms in police system also proved to be a hollow claim as many cases of violence were reported during the past few days, but the accused persons could not be arrested so far.

Mr Humayun handed over a memorandum to the NAB officials and requested for conducting a probe into different development schemes, including the Bus Rapid Transit project to check corruption.

The PPP leader also expressed his concern over the hike in petroleum prices and described it a failure of the federal government. He said that the rising oil prices had affected the lives of people and urged the government to withdraw the decision in this regard.

MPA Ziaullah Afridi, provincial vice-president Syed Ayub Shah and other leaders said that the provincial government had created many problems for the people due to its incompetence.

The MPA claimed that despite its tall claims the government had never paid attention to controlling corruption which had ruined different departments.

He said that it was duty of NAB to start investigation into different schemes in the province.

He condemned the incidents of violence against children and women in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and said that government was least bothered to take effective steps for protection of lives of the citizens.

Meanwhile, party office-bearers, including Jauhar Ali of Buner, Yawar Naseer of cultural wing and Saeed Ahmed, also participated in the protest. They dispersed after handing over the memorandum to NAB officials.
