CHITRAL/SHANGLA: The upper parts of Chitral including Baroghil, Yarkhoon, Terich, Oveer, Gobor and Arkari areas received snow during the last two days after a dry spell of a month.

Light rains lashed the lower parts of the district on Wednesday. Dense clouds have still covered the areas while more raining can cause snowfall due to the prevalence of low temperature and cold.

The roads leading to different remote valleys of Rech, Shagrom, Melp, Shongush and Lonkoh Gol remained closed while the bazaar in the city and the government offices wore a deserted look as people remained indoors due to the chilly weather.

However, the passengers coming to and going from Chitral were least affected owing to completion of Lowari tunnel while the district kept on receiving uninterrupted power supply from the recently completed Golen Gol hydropower station.

In the past, Chitral used to be disconnected from the national grid as a result of snowfall in the Lowari top leaving the district without electricity for many weeks when the transmission lines were restored.

Meanwhile, a new spell of snowfall in upper parts of Shangla district remained continued for second consecutive day turning the weather chilly.

The new wave of snowfall in Shangla Top, Yakhtangay, Ajmeer, Kandaw, Speen Ghar, Kapar Banda and rain in Bisham, Puran, Chakesar, Alpuri, Karora, Dandai, Kamach, Martung and other areas started on Tuesday afternoon and continued for second consecutive day.

With snowfall on the mountains of Shangla, the weather turned cold and most areas were covered by snow.

The new spell of snowfall also affected routine life in the district.
