222 cases of child sexual abuse reported in KP in last six years

At least 222 cases of sexual abuse against children were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) between May 2011 and December 2017, statistics released by KP Child Protection and Welfare Commission show.

The district-wise statistics on sexual violence and abuse directed at children reveal that 155 victims were male and 67 female.

The highest number of such cases, 38, was reported in Abbottabad. Among other districts, 37 cases were reported from Swabi, 35 from Mardan and 30 from Charsadda.

The data reveals that a total of 29,026 vulnerable children were registered with the department during the period, of which 17,794 were males, 11,226 females and six transgenders.

A total of 257 cases of violence against children were also reported with the commission while 156 cases of drug addiction among children were reported.

Since the beginning of 2018, there has been a marked upsurge in the reporting of sexual abuse cases across Pakistan. The brutal rape and murder of Zainab Ansari in Kasur earlier this month in particular shocked the entire country, with #JusticeforZainab becoming the rallying cry in a nationwide drive to end violence against children.

Its really amazing that whenever there is some mishap happens, Media starts comparing with KP. Why not Sind and Baluchistan?

@rajab Why cant not we focus on the REAL ISSUE. Real issue is that CHILD ABUSE in Pakistan is reality and it is time to face this problem so as a first step come out of DENIAL and accept that this is problem not based in Kasur, Punjab, KP or any particular place this is in our Society. Then we need to educate our KIDS and our SOCIETY to make it safer for our kids. At the same time we need to do legislation against CHILD ABUSE cases where culprits are punished but the dignity of the victim is protected at least make DNA an acceptable evidence in RAPE cases. If someone knows about a child abuser or child pornography and does not report he also must be punished. We need to remove STIGMA of rape from the victim and place it on the rapist. Paedophilia and sexual attacks are all over the WORLD but they have strict laws to handle such issues but unfortunately in Zainab case neither her family nor authorities nor so called social network nationalist even mainstream media just did politics

Horrific and these are only those that are reported. We allnknow the situation is worse in other areas of KPK even in Peshawar. So much for Tabdeeli.

@rajab this is good. KPK has the potential to set standards. Sindh and Punjab have a defunct police system. Balochistan will rise when people are given a chance. KPK isnt that well off either but its sure an improvement. Kasur had 250 cases in one year alone; who knows what else might have happened in the rest of the province. The stats for kpk are heartaching. Whether its 1 rape or 10, rapist needs to be taken down severly.
