LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid senior leader Pervaiz Elahi has urged the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take notice of fake police encounters in Punjab and make accountable those responsible for it.

Speaking to a delegation of the Sheikhupura District Bar Association headed by its president Ghulam Murtaza Virk that called on him at his residence here on Sunday, he said in the Shahbaz Sharif regime numerous fake encounters had been staged which should not go unnoticed.

Mr Elahi said struggle of lawyers community for supremacy of the constitution and law and getting justice for the oppressed was appreciable and those blocking the way of justice would have to go now.

He said Shahbaz Sharif had tried to scrap the good work of his regime like provision of free treatment and operation in the government hospitals for lawyers. “During the PML-Q regime regular annual funds were provided at the tehsil bar level, construction of judicial complexes in all districts, residential colonies for the lawyers and their appointments in all government departments as legal advisers,” Mr Elahi said.

Mr Virk praised steps taken during Mr Elahi’s government in Punjab for the welfare and well-being of people belonging to all fields of life particularly of lawyers. Quick provision of justice and curbing of crime including establishment of Punjab Criminal Prosecution were made for ensuring effective punishments to the criminals whereas Punjab Public Defender Service was also started so that resourceless people could be provided free legal aid, he said.
