KHAR: The heirs of Levies men martyred during the fight against terrorism were on Saturday paid special financial package announced by the Peshawar corps commander.

Political Agent Abdul Amir Khattak distributed Rs1 million among heirs of 73 martyred Levies men at a ceremony here.

Tribal elders, workers of political and religious parties and family members of the martyred officials were in attendance. Bajaur Scouts Commandant Col Mohammad Rahman Qadar was also present.

Speaking at the ceremony, the political agent said that the compensation package to the heirs of martyred Levies men was approved by Crops Commander Peshawar Lt-Gen Nazir Ahmed Butt during his visit to the agency, last month.

ARRESTED: The local administration on Saturday arrested several persons from rival groups for firing on each other in Inayat Kallay Bazaar, officials said. They, however, added that no loss of life was reported in exchange of fire.

They said men of a developer were busy in construction of shops at the Bank Market when his rival along with a number of people came there and asked for the work to be stopped because the land belonged to him.

The officials said when the developer refused to stop work as he claimed to be the owner of the land a scuffle erupted, leading to exchange of fire.

When the Levies personnel heard the gunshots they rushed to the site and arrested scores of persons. They said an inquiry had been ordered into the incident.
