PESHAWAR: Lakki Marwat district retained its top position in the monthly evaluation of performance by the Elementary and Secondary Education Department with an overall score of 77.23 per cent. Swabi with 76.29 per cent and Dir Lower with 76.03 per cent score secured the second and third position, respectively, in the education department’s evaluation for November 2017, according to a statement issued by the education department.

In terms of worst performing districts, Kohistan continued to be ranked at the lowest with a score of 56.36 per cent, followed by Peshawar with 63.44 per cent and Shangla 64.52 per cent. The E&SE Department with the support of Department for International Development has introduced district performance evaluation system (DPES) for the monthly ranking of the districts.

A quantitative index calculates a score for districts based on a set of indicators, including student learning outcomes through 5th and 10th grade results, attendance rate, progress on development projects in schools, increase in student enrolment, provision of textbooks, percentage of provision of stipends, delivery of furniture, optimal students-teacher ratio and teachers’ attendance in schools.

The objective of DPES is to assess performance of the districts on key education indicators in line with education sector plan and to introduce a reward mechanism for better performance. Compared to the previous month’s evaluation, 15 districts have improved their performance with Kohat and Swabi on top.
