LAKKI MARWAT: The district chapter of headmasters union has demanded of the government to award one-step upgradation to the headmasters of government high schools across the province. The demand was made at a meeting held here on Sunday.

The union’s president Abdul Akbar presided over the meeting, which was attended by other office-bearers, including Nawaz Khan, Nasrullah Jan, Ameer Khan and Abdul Qayyum.

Speaking on this occasion, the union leaders hailed the upgradation policy of the provincial government and said that it had paved the way for promotion of thousands of employees, including teachers.

However, they said that the government had ignored the headmasters of high schools in its upgradation policy.

Abdul Akbar said that headmasters had the genuine right to be promoted to BPS-18, as they had been serving in the same grade (BPS-17) for the last over 10 years. They urged the chief minister to promote headmasters to the next grade otherwise they would have no other option, but to launch an agitation.

GIRL DROWNS: A minor girl died after falling into an underground water tank in Shah Hasankhel village on Sunday.

Village council nazim Abdul Malik confirmed the death of Iqra (3), daughter of one Mohammad Hasan. He said that the girl had left the home to play outside in the street where she fell into the water tank and drowned. Several rural localities in the district have underground tanks for storing rainwater, which was used for drinking and other purposes.

UPLIFT PRIORITY: The nazims and secretaries of village councils have said that they are committed to development at the grass roots with the support of Local Government and Rural Development Department.

The resolve was expressed at a meeting chaired here on Sunday by village council nazims union president Saleem Khan. Other office-bearers, including Hizbullah, Bahadar Nawaz, Qismatullah and secretaries’ union president Dil Nawaz, attended the meeting.
