BAHAWALPUR: A woman with positive seasonal flu virus has been admitted to the Government Civil Hospital, Jhangiwali Road.

Quaid-i-Azam Medical College Principal Prof Dr Javed Iqbal, who is also the chief executive officer (CEO) of the civil hospital, told Dawn that Dawat Bibi of New Central Jail Colony’s blood examination shows the virus attack. However, he said the attack was not so serious and expected her early recovery.

Meanwhile, 12 patients with positive flu virus are under treatment at city’s main health facility, the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH), where five patients have already expired during the last few weeks.

According to BVH focal person and director of emergencies Dr Aamir Bokhari, Punjab Minister for Cooperatives Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar’s blood test results were negative.

Meanwhile, The District Health Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr Fayyaz Anwar said the DEA had launched an awareness campaign about the flu across the district.

According to him, all the BHUs, THQs and government medical dispensaries in the urban and rural areas have been asked to educate patients on precautionary /preventive measures.
