Climate change

Published January 14, 2018

PAKISTAN is ranked 10th among the most affected countries owing to climate change. Floods, droughts, decreasing ratio of crops production and increasing duration of hot and dry summers are its results.

It merits a mention that the scientists have warned that climate change could make much of South Asia — home to a fifth of the world’s population. They say it would be too hot for humans to survive by the end of this century. If climate change continues at its current pace, deadly heat waves beginning in the next few decades will strike parts of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Key agricultural areas in the Indus and Ganges river basins will be particularly affected, reducing crop yields and increasing hunger in some of the world’s most densely populated regions.

To save our world we have to change our behaviour. It is heartening to note that Pakistan is striving to tackle the phenomenon through comprehensive policies, plans and actions.
