KARACHI: Mothers’ Day today

Published May 8, 2005

KARACHI, May 7: Pakistan is observing World Mothers’ Day on Sunday (May 8) in the backdrop of the fact that in this country, one mother dies in every 20 minutes due to complications during pregnancy and that she is largely denied quality and efficient health care facilities. This is again despite the fact that mother plays a key role in the basic health as is in charge of maintenance, protection and promotion of the health of every member of her family.

This becomes essential for men and women in general, and mothers in particular, to have proper health education, as well as access to necessary resources, and skills in decision making in order to get maximum benefits of the priceless services rendered by mothers.—APP
