PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Tuesday announced starting probe into allegations of Rs2 billion corruption in developmental schemes by retired Captain Mohammad Safdar, the son-in-law of former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif.
The bureau claims that it has started complaint verification on the directives of NAB Chairman Justice Javaid Iqbal.
According to a press release, a complaint was lodged against Capt Safdar, who is an MNA from Mansehra, at NAB, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, by a resident of his constituency, NA-21, in Mansehra district of Hazara division.
The complainant identified massive corruption in funds allocated by the federal government for the developmental schemes in NA-21 Hazara division.
It alleged that Rs3 billion were allocated by the federal government for developmental projects.
Being the son-in-law of former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif, he has influence on all federal government departments. It alleged that Capt Safdar virtually ran the affairs of departments such as PAK-PDW in his constituency.
Using his influence and in connivance with several officials of Pak-PWD, he not only launched many ghost schemes but also awarded contracts to his handpicked persons and embezzled around Rs2 billion, the release said.
