KARACHI: As the clock announced the advent of New Year, many areas of Karachi reverberated with gun fire, causing injuries to several people and indicating ineffectiveness of the provincial government’s ban on aerial firing. “We received seven persons, including one woman, brought with bullet injuries at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre,” said executive director of the hospital, Dr Seemin Jamali.
None of the victims had sustained life-threatening injuries, she added.
They were hit by stray bullets when people resorted to firing in jubilation with the start of New Year. The incidents were reported from Defence, Baloch Colony, Mehmoodabad, Lines Area, Landhi and other localities.
