Twin cites hold flower shows

ISLAMABAD: The civic bodies of the twin cities have organised flower shows which began on Friday.

In Islamabad, the three-day annual Autumn Flower Show was inaugurated by Mayor and acting chief of CDA Sheikh Anser Aziz at Rose and Jasmine Garden.

The show received a good response from nature lovers on the opening day.

Office bearers of Islamabad Horticulture Society, environmentalists, diplomats, students from different educational institutes and officers and officials of Metropolitian Corporation Islamabad (MCI) were also present at the inaugural ceremony.

MCI has organised this show in collaboration with the Islamabad Horticulture Society (IHS).

The mayor was briefed by organisers that multiple varieties of chrysanthemum particularly intermediate, incurred, reflex, sprays, anemone, pompons, Korean hybrid, single floor and spidery flower were displayed.

Speaking on the occasion, the mayor said that MCI was taking steps to improve and provide healthier environment to the residents as healthy environment leads to healthy attitudes and flowers contribute remarkably to healthy environment.

The Rawalpindi, the chrysanthemum flower show was arranged by Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) at Roomi Park.

In the past, the Race Course Park used to be the venue of chrysanthemum flower show in autumn and spring seasons.

In the flower show, more than 120 varieties of the chrysanthemum flowers of different sizes from one inch to 10 inches were displayed in an impressive way.

Besides, the garden branch of RCB, CCB, Military Hospital, Combined Military Hospital, Ayub National Park, Jinnah Park and different organizations of Pakistan Army participated in the flower show.

On the first day of the flower show, the organisers also conducted voting for the best flower arrangement. RCB secured first position, CMH and CCB got second and third positions respectively.
