K-Electric response

Published November 24, 2017

THIS is with reference to the letter on Nov 15. K-Electiricity would like to inform Dawn readers that customers are billed on the basis of their consumption of electricity and in line with regulatory guidelines.

The overall drive against power theft and illegal abstraction is a key priority for the company. It has played a critical role in bringing transmission and distribution losses down to as low as 22pc from 36pc in 2009. This has also resulted in the exemption of 61pc of Karachi from loadshedding.

Over the years, KE has taken various measures to streamline its distribution network, including the installation of ‘kunda’-resistant aerial bundled cables (ABC) in different parts of the city. Areas post-ABC conversion have shown tremendous progress and experienced noticeable improvement in power supply.

The transformation of Ghazdarabad, a low-income community in Karachi, into a power theft-free and hence loadshedding-free community, has also received international recognition from a renowned publication, Financial Times.

Reports of power theft may be made via 29 Integrated Business Centres or by calling at 118 or 021-99000 or through KE’s Facebook and Twitter pages. Citizens may also report power theft anonymously by emailing speakup@ke.com.pk.
