Elton John ‘hopes’ to be involved with The Lion King remake

With the live-action remake of Disney’s The Lion King currently in production, Elton John says he’s looking to get on board.

John stirred speculation of his potential involvement when he made a surprise appearance on stage at the Broadway production of the The Lion King, in honour of the show’s 20th anniversary.

The 70-year-old megastar — who wrote and sang some of the most iconic songs on the soundtrack of the 1994 animated classic — treated the audience to a live rendition of his legendary tune “Circle of Life.” As for whether or not he’ll be participating in the upcoming live-action remake, John told, “Yes, I think so. I hope so.”

Harry Potter augmented reality game in the making

Niantic, the creators of Pokémon Go, made the announcement in a blog post: “We’re incredibly excited to announce this next step in the evolution of AR mobile entertainment,” the post said. “With Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, players that have been dreaming of becoming real life wizards will finally get the chance to experience J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World. Players will learn spells, explore their real world neighbourhoods and cities to discover and fight legendary beasts and team up with others to take down powerful enemies.” While the announcement did not say when the new game would be available, it did mention for everyone to “stay tuned” to their social channels for the latest updates.

The Magic Order, first comic book from Mark Millar

Netflix is set to publish its first comic book, The Magic Order, from famed writer Mark Millar. The Magic Order, illustrated by Marvel comics artist Olivier Coipel (Thor, The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man), will be a six-issue series that debuts in spring 2018. It will be sold through comic book stores, retail outlets and online.

“Magic meets the mob in The Magic Order, as five families of magicians sworn to protect our world for generations must battle an enemy who’s picking them off one by one,” reads the synopsis.

“By day they live among us as our neighbours, friends and co-workers, but by night they are the sorcerers, magicians and wizards that protect us from the forces of darkness ... unless the darkness gets them first,” it continues.

The comic book is the first project born from Netflix’s acquisition of Millar’s publishing imprint Millarworld in August.
