MANSEHRA: The PML-N has served notices on its Balakot tehsil councillors for voting against its nazim and naib nazim on the PTI’s no confidence motion last week.

“I have issued notices to the party councillors, who had cast vote against our nazim Rustam Khan and naib nazim Sardar Abdul Qudus during polling on a no confidence motion tabled by rival party,” PML-N district president Zafar Mehmood told a news conference in Balakot on Wednesday.

He said the notices were issued on the directives of the leadership for breaching party discipline.

The PML-N district president said action against defiant councillors would taken against Section 7B-A of the Local Government Act, 2013.

He said the party didn’t need councillors, who followed the agenda of opponents.

“After the time to respond to notice expires, we will move the Election Commission of Pakistan for the de-seating of councillors,” he said.

PROTEST HELD: The labourers working at the 830-megawatt Suki Kanari hydropower power project in Kaghan valley on Wednesday held a rally to demand increase in wages and overtime payments.

Protester Niaz Shah said the district government in agreement with the Chinese company working on the project had announced the payment of wages to labourers in line with the relevant laws but ironically, they were paid much less than that.

He said work on the project had been suspended for many days due to the workers’ strike.

“The company pays Rs400 per day to a labourer though a local labourer attached to any construction work receives from Rs700 to Rs1000 daily as wage,” he said.

The protesters said they would resume work only after their wages were increased fairly. They later dispersed after PTI leaders Shabbir Hussain Shah showed up and assure them that he would take up the matter with the deputy commissioner for necessary action.
