KOHAT: MPA Ziaullah Bangash has said that the provincial government has bought the land of servant quarters for Rs160 million at Ayub Chowk and the business centres along the congested road up to the PAF Cinema for widening of the main artery.

He said that all shops and markets of the Cantonment Board and tehsil municipal administration had also been marked for pushing them back. He said that soon the traffic problem at the main artery passing through middle of the city would be resolved.

The traffic signals were also restored on Friday on the order of Mr Bangash. The announcement to this effect was made by him at a ceremony held at the new family company park a couple of days ago. He also asked the people to avoid use of horns unnecessarily.

SPORTS GALA: The annual sports gala involving 40 teams selected from 260 private schools kicked off here at the Tehsil Municipal Ground under the auspices of Private Educational Association Kohat.

A statement issued here on Friday said that former district nazim Gohar Saiullah was chief guest at the inaugural ceremony while former MPA Musarrat Shafi and Kohat BISE chairman Raqeebullah were guests of honour.

The teams would compete for top honours in football, hockey, volleyball, basketball, cricket and tug of war.

Mr Saifullah stated that the private schools equally deserved patronage of the government because they were playing a pivotal role in imparting quality education to the children.

SPEECH CONTEST: Commissioner Kohat division Mutahir Zeb highlighting the teachings of Dr Allama Mohammad Iqbal said that they will have to work hard for promoting literacy and quality education for achieving the status of a developed and civilised society.

He was speaking as chief guest on the occasion of Iqbal Day at the declamation contest among students from Kohat and Hangu held at the Police Training College, Hangu.

The function was also attended by commandant Dr Fasihuddin, cadets and their parents. In the end, the chief guest distributed prizes among the position-holder students.
