SWABI: Members of political parties and representatives of local government on Monday staged a sit-in against the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leadership for not naming the under-construction government girls degree college in Kotha as Topi Girls Degree College.

The call for the protest was given by All Neighbourhood Council Alliance (ANCA) of Topi tehsil.

They demanded that the college should be renamed as Topi degree college as it was being built on the land the people of Topi had provided. They also opposed the merger of a girls degree college established by Frontier Education Foundation (FEF) in the heart of Topi city with the under-construction Kotha college.

It was learnt that leaders of PTI also attended the sit-in camp held near the Topi general bus stand, however, they did not make any speeches.

MPA Shiraz Khan, who is also district president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, said they would fully support the drive for rights of the people of Topi. It was learnt that negotiations were expected to be held between ANCA members and PTI leaders. Zahir Shah, president of ANCA, said: “We have no political motive and only want renaming of the college as Topi girls college.
