Dr Qibla Ayaz appointed new chairman of Council of Islamic Ideology

Dr Qibla Ayaz, the former dean Faculty of Islamic and Oriental Studies of the University of Peshawar, was appointed the chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) by the law ministry on Friday, DawnNews reported.

Sahibzada Sajidur Rehman, Khursheed Nadeem, Hafiz Fazlur Rahim and Allah Bakhsh Kalyar were among the newly appointed members of the CII.

Maulana Raghib Hussain Naimi, Qari Abdur Rashid, Ghulam Hussain Sialwi, Pir Rooh-ul-Hasnain Moin and Allama Arif Hussain Wahidi were also appointed as members of the body.

President Mamnoon Hussain has approved the appointments of the new chairman and members who have been appointed for a tenure of three years. According to rules of the council, at least four meetings of the CII are mandatory during a year and a quorum of seven members is imperative to call a meeting.

The council consists of 20 members. 10 members of the body had completed their tenure last year. Reportedly, a list of 30 nominations had been forwarded to the prime minister through Ministry of Law and Justice for finalising names of the new members.

Absolutely meaningless body when other developed and developing countries are concentrating their efforts on improving health, medical, science and technology which benefit humanity and improve the economies of their countries.

Once again we are allowing only men to make these religious and worldly decisions without any women voice. It is high time that the government of Pakistan show some courage and leadership in appointing women to these councils. There is nothing that prevents them from doing that other than fear of the ultra conservative mullahs.

Congrats to Prof Dr Qibla Ayaz & other newly appointed members. Unfortunately the performance of CII has not been upto mark since its birth. I had an experience about an inquiry whether a daughter keep linkage with her father name after marriage, despite reminder the CII Office least care to even aknowlledgd the mail. If really the CII performed well, what the nation is subject of difficulties like terrorism or corruption should had been contained. CII is nothing but a way of awarding perks to friends of ruling party, just similar to Kashmir Committee , which spent millions of rupees in foreign trips and perks for its Chairman & members. In next election some parties may please include in manifesto to abolish all such committees and councils, nothing but a burden on exchequer.Besides the size of cabinets may also be curtailed, we are not an oil rich state,we need austerity,according to our pocket.
