CHARSADDA: Gunmen killed three people, including two police personnel, and injured one constable in Majoki area here on Wednesday morning.

The Prang police said SHO Ayub Khan along with constables Shah Hussain and Aakaz came under attack during a routine patrol in Majoki area when they signaled the people suspected of carrying illegal arms to stop their car.

They said the firing killed SHO Ayub Khan and injured two constables, who were shifted to the DHQ Hospital, Charsadda.

The police said the injured were later referred to the Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar, where Shah Hussain breathed his last.

Soon after the incident, DPO Zahoor Afridi reached the area and called the police reinforcement, which cordoned off the area and began a search operation.

During the search, the police had an encounter with the suspected assailants and killed Zahir Shah and injured his son, Akhtar Hussain.

They continued to conduct raids in the area but didn’t arrest other suspects.

The counter-terrorism department registered a case against the suspected assailants.

The local elected representatives and political leaders condemned the incident and asked the police to take strict security checks in the region.

Later, funeral payers for the police personnel were held at the Police Lines, where the police and government officials and local elders showed up.
