ISLAMABAD: After facing criticism from the National Assembly body concerned, the state minister for information said on Wednesday that the bill for security, safety and protection of journalists would be presented before the cabinet soon.

The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting had expressed concern over the ministry’s performance and Pir Muhammad Aslam Bodla, its chairman, had even alleged that the ministry was sitting on The Protection of Journalists Bill, 2014.

The committee members recalled that the government had presented a bill on the same subject and the matter was being prolonged as another bill on the matter, moved by Sahibzada Tariqullah, was on the table.

The committee examined the bill moved by Sahibzada Tariqullah and decided to constitute a sub-committee under the convenership of Naeema Kishwer Khan to deliberate on the matter.
