Model Town report

Published October 16, 2017

THE Lahore High Court’s decision to make the Model Town report public has come as a bolt out of the blue for Shahbaz Sharif, who is likely to face money laundering charges in the Hudaibiya paper mills case being reopened on the Supreme Court’s order.

Shahbaz had used his position to delay the Model Town report, which created the suspicion that he was responsible for the Model Town massacre.

If there was nothing against him, why was the report not made public three years ago? Instead of police reforms and making Punjab police an independent department, he did not implement the Police Order 2000. Instead, he kept the police department under the Punjab government’s home and law department. He has been using police force for his personal whims and family’s security.

His ruthless style of governance earned him the title of ‘good administrator’ who knows how to get work done by civil servants.

Like his elder brother Nawaz Sharif, it seems his good luck has also abandoned him.
