RAWALPINDI: An angiojet machine worth Rs13.5 million has been installed at the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology (RIC). The latest technology is used to remove blood clots from the arteries in patients suffering from heart diseases or blocked vessels in arms and legs.
RIC Executive Director retired Major Gen Azhar Mehmood Kayani conducted a procedure on the machine and also arranged a training session for other senior doctors at the hospital.
In collaboration with Dr Ahmed El Ghandi from Egypt, RIC conducted a workshop to use the machine. The doctors and staff were trained on how to look after the patients before and after the therapy from the machine.
“The machine has been procured on funds provided by the Punjab government and it will help remove blood clots in veins of cardiac patients. It will also help remove blood clots developed due to diabetes and other ailments,” a senior doctor told Dawn.
“Because of the efforts of the RIC executive director, the hospital was able to train its staff and doctors from foreign cardiac surgeons and specialists,” he said.
During the last a few years, renowned cardiac specialists, including Dr Hasnat Khan, came from United Kingdom to train the doctors at RIC, the doctor added.
