LAHORE: A senior police officer freed on bail in the Benazir murder case by the Islamabad High Court recently has been posted in Rawalpindi against an existing vacancy.

Inspector General of Punjab Police retired Capt Arif Nawaz issued a notification on Monday allowing SSP Khurram Shahzad to join the new assignment as Rawalpindi special branch SSP.

An anti-terrorism court had awarded 17-year imprisonment to former DIG Saud Aziz and Khurram Shahzad for abetment.

Later the police officers challenged the decision in the Islamabad High Court which suspended the ATC order and released them on bail.

Meanwhile, Assistant Inspector General (Operations) at Central Police Office Muntazar Mehdi has been transferred and posted as the Lahore Operations SSP against an existing vacancy.
