IPC to discuss snooker

KARACHI: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) meets in Islamabad on Wednesday at 11am.

The meeting, among other things, will discuss issues pertaining to the game of snooker.

The president of the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Federation (PBSF) Munawwar Hussain Shaikh and former president Alamgir Shaikh will brief the committee members on the players performances in international events and seek their support for instituting a regular reward system.

It is on record that the government has always been supportive to the baize game be it in cash or kind. It has doled out handsome money in the shape of regular and special grants in the last fiscal year.

Meanwhile, the PBSF president visited the PSB Coaching Centre in the city in order to explore setting up of a academy.

The PBSF has been able to set up only one academy in the private sector at University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. The Islamabad’s Pakistan Sports Complex also serves the purpose for holding camps and coaching sessions.

Meanwhile, the PBSF had already submitted a proposal to the IPC Minister which envisaged revised cash awards for medal winning cueists of 2016-2017. According to their revised proposal, the the games controlling body has demanded Rs17.8 million for cueists for winning medals in seven international events abroad during 2016-2017.
