A district and sessions court in Quetta on Tuesday rejected an application filed by Gazeen Marri, the son of late Baloch politician Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri, seeking a production order ahead of a bail before arrest hearing related to the murder case of Justice Nawaz Marri.

Advocate Arbab Tahir, the counsel representing Gazeen, pleaded before the court to grant a production order to his client for October 5 — when the court is due to hear Gazeen's application for bail before arrest.

Earlier, the advocate had filed an application, on behalf of his client, before the same court seeking bail before arrest in the former justice's murder case.

However, the request had been rejected as a district and sessions court judge, Rashid Mehmood, sought a production order.

Last week, after an anti-terrorism court in Sibi granted bail to Gazeen, Quetta district administration detained him under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).

Marri was shifted to district jail Quetta amid tight security under the MPO.

Section 3 of the MPO states: "The government, if satisfied that with a view to preventing any person from acting in any manner prejudicial to public safety or the maintenance of public order, may by an order in writing direct his arrest and detention."

In September, Gazeen was arrested by the police upon his arrival in Quetta after 18-years of self-imposed exile in Dubai. On Sept 23, he was was remanded to Levies custody for five days.

On September 25, Justice Mehmood had granted interim bail to Gazeen against a surety of Rs1 million in the murder case.

Justice Nawaz Marri, the senior judge of Balochistan High Court, was killed in an attack on January 7, 2000, in the Zarghoon road area of Quetta. Gazeen Marri, Hyrbayar Marri and others were nominated in the murder case.
