ISLAMABAD: As many as 26 senators have challenged the appointment of Musharraf Rasool Cyan as chief executive officer (CEO) of the national flag carrier in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Senator Azam Swati and others termed that the appointment of Mr Cyan as CEO of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) a violation of Rules of 2013 and the Public Sector Companies (appointment of chief executive) Guidelines of 2015.

The petition filed through Mohsin Kamal advocate pointed out that the said appointment is even against the basic criteria set out through the advertisement inviting applications from prospective candidates.

The petitioners contended that they are members of the upper house and had no aspiration for the office of the PIA CEO.

The petitioners requested the court to set aside the appointment of Mr Cyan.
