LAHORE: The Pakistan Awami Tehreek on Friday filed a writ petition in the Lahore High Court seeking an order for the Interior Ministry to place the names of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Law Minister Rana Sanaullah and former IGP Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera on the ECL.

Advocate Ishtiaq Ahmad of the PAT contended in the petition that the respondents were involved in the Model Town incident which claimed 14 lives. He said some other rulers and government functionaries including Nawaz Sharif, Dr Tauqir Shah, former DIG Rana Abdul Jabbar and SP Abdul Rahim had already escaped the country.

He said Shahbaz is set to fly to London today and his return is not likely since a judge of the high court had ordered the government to make public Justice Najafi’s inquiry report. The other respondents, he said, could also flee anytime. He asked the court to order the Interior Ministry to put the names of the respondents on the ECL.

Allowing a petition filed by the families of the Model Town incident victims, Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Naqvi on Thursday directed the provincial home secretary to make public the Model Town inquiry report.

However, the government decided to file an appeal against the decision, saying the single judge lacked the jurisdiction to hear the petition as the same matter was already pending before a three-judge full bench.
