The National Security Committee (NSC) "responded befittingly" to US President Donald Trump's statements regarding Pakistan, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi told reporters in London on Sunday, Radio Pakistan reported.

The premier, who stopped over in London before heading to New York for the 72nd United Nations General Assembly session, said that the government and the NSC stand on the same page regarding Washington's South Asian policy, the state-run daily added.

Announcing his South Asian policy last month, Trump had lambasted Pakistan for offering safe havens to “agents of chaos”.

The NSC held two meetings after Trump's remarks and decided in the second to constitute a working group for finalising policy recommendations on ties with the United States in light of the policy announcement.

Speaking to the reporters, PM Abbasi rubbished speculations that the country was facing a crisis and claimed that all challenges were being met "politically".

Earlier in the day, PM Abbasi met with ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif to "exchange views on party matters", Radio Pakistan added. No further details on the meeting between Abbasi and Nawaz were provided.
