PESHAWAR: Senior staff of Peshawar Rapid Bus Transit system assumed their duties to oversee construction, operation and management of the much-awaited project, said an official statement issued here on Friday.

The provincial government had set up Trans Peshawar (the Urban Mobility Company) whose board has appointed Altaf Durrani as its chief executive officer, Fayyas Khan general manager planning and construction and Mohammad Imran Khan general manager operations and marketing.

Javed Iqbal, the board chairman, said the appointment process was open and transparent, attracting applicants from within the country and abroad. He claimed the board had filled three senior most positions with applicants having extensive experience in the sector.

Mr Iqbal said CEO Durrani had graduated from UET Peshawar and completed his masters in civil engineering from the University of New Brunswick (Canada). He had been working for the City of Calgary (Canada) Transport Department as project coordinator.

He had an engineering and management background with extensive experience of working at senior management in the sector, explained Mr Iqbal.

According to Mr Iqbal, the company’s general manager Fayyaz Khan also obtained his masters from the University of Ontario Canada and had worked for the ministry of transport, Alberta, Canada and for an international company as resident engineer in Qatar prior to taking the present job.

Imran Khan is also a graduate of UET Peshawar and obtained his masters in urban planning and transportation system from Hanyang University in Korea.

He has worked on the development of the BRT system in Lahore, Islamabad and Multan and until recently was working on the Lahore Orange Train Project, concluded Mr Iqbal.
