KHAR: Two children were killed and one suffered injuries when roof of their house collapsed due to heavy rain in Mamond tehsil of Bajaur Agency early on Thursday.

Officials and local people said that the incident occurred in hilly Malangi area. They said that the family members of Gul Said were sleeping in a mudroom when its roof fell on them due to rain, leaving two children dead and one wounded.

Area people rushed to the site and retrieved the victims from the rubble and took them to the agency headquarters hospital, Khar. The residents said that Siraj Ahmed, 12 and Isra Bibi, 6, died before reaching the hospital while condition of the injured Najmuddin was stated to be stable.

The heavy rain accompanied with strong winds also affected standing maize crop and vegetable farms in various localities of the agency.

The residents said that hilly areas of Mamond and Salarzai and parts of Khar tehsil were the most affected by the windstorm. Power supply to almost all areas of the agency, including Khar tehsil, had been suspended after the heavy rain and windstorm.
